Cannabidiol, or CBD, is anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and antipsychotic – but is CBD also a blood thinner?
The short answer is Yes, CBD is a blood thinner.
Like grapefruit juice, CBD naturally increases the blood thinner coumadin in your blood. Source.
A 2017 study showed interactions between warfarin and cannabidiol. “In patients taking warfarin, INR monitoring is suggested during initiation and up-titration of cannabinoids.” Source.
Does this mean you shouldn’t take CBD?
Not necessarily. It does mean you should consult your doctor if you’re taking any other medication, or if you have a history of anything that affects the coagulation of your blood.
If you have high blood pressure, CBD may be helpful. Again, check with your doctor if it’s something you’d like to try.
Because CBD isn’t regulated by the FDA, it’s important to find brands you can trust. (Shameless plug: Holden Farms vets every single product we sell, including independent testing to verify the quality and purity of the CBD we sell.)
