What’s the difference between CBD & CBG?

If you’ve lurked around our shop at all, you’ll notice that while we’re primarily a CBD company, we also carry some CBG tinctures, including a blend of CBD and CBG.

So what’s the difference between CBD and CBG?

We’re glad you asked.

What is CBG?

CBG stands for Cannabigerol. CBG is one of many cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant.

CBG has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties. Research is also showing promising connections to:

CBG is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, making it a great addition to things like hand sanitizers.

How is CBG similar to CBD?

Just like its cousin CBD, CBG is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that, unlike THC, will not get you high.

Cannabis plants contain many different types of cannabinoids, with THC and CBD being the most popular and the most common. CBG is another type of cannabinoid that is fairly common and plentiful in cannabis plants.

Like CBD, CBG interacts with your endocannabinoid system, providing relief and healing in a variety of ways.

How is CBG different from CBD?

In some situations, CBD is the best choice. Things like appetite, anxiety, and pain may respond well to CBD. CBG is helpful when treating pain, bacteria, and fungus.

CBG has shown incredible promise in cancer research and glaucoma. CBD is anti-inflammatory, but CBG takes the superpowers of CBD to a whole new level. CBG’s chemical makeup is different enough that it provides a different type of relief than CBD.

Is CBG legal?

Yes! CBG is derived from a different part of the cannabis plant that isn’t considered a controlled substance. So, just like CBD, as long as what you are consuming has less than .3% THC, CBG is legal.

Should I use CBD or CBG tinctures?

That’s really up to you. It’s important to identify why you’re including cannabinoids as part of your treatment plan. If you’re looking for relief from anxiety, arthritis, or help with sleep, CBD is a great choice for you. If you need something with a little more power, adding to treatments for cancer, glaucoma, or MRSA, CBG is a great choice. If you really can’t decide one way or the other, get our tincture that contains both!

Please consult with your doctor before adding CBG tinctures to your treatment. We’re here for your health, and that includes every member of your care team.
